I personally know how hard it can be to deal with depression. At the age of 14, I started having panic attacks and I was told that I also had depression and that’s one reason the panic attacks were happening. It is hard to explain what I was feeling and at times I did not even know who I was. I felt lost and like I was looking in at my self and the world around me. The one thing that I would get mad about is the fact that I had so many people tell me that it was all in my head and I know it was not just all in my head. I have been dealing with my depression for 10 years and thank God I no longer have panic attacks and am off all the depression pills I was once taking.
I have found some ways that help me deal with my depression and they also help me to stay off any medication. Every person is different and it is always good to talk to your Doctor before you stop taking any kind of medication. But regardless if you are or are not taking medication for depression you still might find some good in the following information.
My Personal Top 3 Activities That Help Me Deal With Depression
Writing: Writing is the first thing I will do when it comes to dealing with my depression. I keep a journal and try to write in it each day about what went on and how I was feeling and also anything I feel like writing about. I think it is good to not only write about the bad days but also the good ones, that way you can look back in your journal and be reminded that every day is not bad and that even when you feel you are at the bottom and nothing feels right always remember that you have had so many good days and there will be so many more to come. I also find writing poems helps me and I like poetry even the poems I write are not that good. I use poetry as a way for me to let out my feelings and try to explain myself in a creative way. I have let people read my poems and I don’t mind if they do not understand what I write because it is not for anyone I do it for myself and I feel that writing is a good way for me to release things that build up inside and as always its the good things and also the not so good things. Every person has there ups and downs but with depression, you just take things to a deeper level but a person with depression can also overcome the bad things just like any other person.
Love: Do things that you love to do, be with people whom you love and are dear to you, eat something that you love to eat, go to that one place that you love to see and always remember that love is the most important thing in life that keeps a person happy. Love does not have to mean the love of a life partner, love is and can be many things. I know that some days I do not feel like doing anything but I don’t want to be alone and it helps to be around a close family member or friend and even if you don’t feel like talking it helps just to know that someone to there.
Get Out: I know that going out can be hard for some people with depression and I personal had points that my panic and depression were really bad and sometimes it would be so bad that I could not drive a car, could not go into a store and I did not want to be around a group of people but I also wanted to get out at times and I knew I needed to get out. I started to set and plan 1 day a week that I would go out on and no matter how I was feeling I would make myself go out even if it was just to go for a walk or even to sit outside under the stars. I started to find that being outside in the open air was a good way to calm myself down and soon I started to go out more and to more places.
