What are The Causes Of The Wear and Tear Of Tyres?

Your car tyres need to be regularly checked for any kind of wear and tear. This is the most crucial aspect as the tyres are the only main point of contact when it comes to the road and your vehicle. Any kind of damage or wear and tear to your sidewalls can be risky and can lead to a severe accident.

The Main Requirements of an Efficient Car Tyre Include:

  1. The tread depth has to essentially be at a minimum depth of 1.6mm. This pertains to the complete circumference of the tyre. Having a bald patch on the tyre wherein the depth is lesser than the required minimum is just against the criteria. Always get the tyre checked post a skid or any kind of emergency braking. This is the ideal situation for any bald patch to occur.
  2. The tyres need to be inflated just till the right pressure is attained. Go through the vehicles manufacturers’ guidebook to check for recommendations on the correct pressure etc. This is not merely a legal requirement but also assists in vehicle maintenance and brings down fuel consumption.
  3. All the 4 tyres of the car need to be compatible and should be in good working condition. If at all any replacement of the tyre is required, it needs to be done else it needs to be changed.

The Other Factors which Affect the Car Tyre Wear Rate Include:

1. Car Tyre Make

The car tyres are designed in different ways so as to meet certain criteria.  The tyres that are made to last long are made out of much solid rubber compound. This normally increases the sound or noise when driven. A tyre of much softer tyre compound would be quieter, but will however wear out even faster.

2. Car Tyres Position

The front tyres tend to wear out much faster than the back tyres. This is especially true if the car is driven front wheel. The extra wear that is caused is due to the steering movement. The front tyres of the car need to exceed 20,000 miles on a 4 wheel drive car. This is only half of the expected life of the cars back tyre.

3. Vehicles Weight

It also depends on the vehicle’s weight. The heavier it is the faster would the tyres wear.

4. Pressure on the Tyre

If the car tyre has been inflated more than the prescribed pressure, it will tend to wear much faster. This is because of the high operation temperature and also the added rubber flexing. The wear can also be increased due to over inflation owing to the decreased contact area size between the road and the tyre.

5. Speed

The car tyre temperature increases when the car is driven at a very high speed and it also accelerates the process of wearing.

6. Alignment of the Car Tyre

The wrong alignment of the car’s tyre can cause increased wear and unevenness.

7. Driving Style

Hostile cornering, acceleration and excessive braking also cause the car tyre to wear out.

The car tyre deteriorates in their condition over a period of time. This is inevitable. Thus, your car tyres need to be changed over a period of time even though they might still seem to be in good condition.  If you are planning to get your car tyres changed, choose only National Tyres.
