The Importance of Volunteering and Social Engagement

Today when we try to find some of the causes of longevity in people, one of the most cardinal explanations is job satisfaction, but when we delve into the comprehension and understanding of well-being and happiness it converts to a decisive factor and thus is the factor of volunteering and Social Commitment.

Volunteering is the nectar that recreates permanently renewed energy. It is the individual’s transcended staging to the social sphere, to the construction of the self in us. It is the understanding of a given situations in new prospects, our assimilation in a collective setting. It is a moral social compass.

Volunteer work as an essential point of sensitivity is the answer to an individual meridian but not in a person, as an expression of an isolated entity, but as a brand and differentiation in its commitment to its reality, with its surroundings, with its context and with its future. There is no story in it, it is created as the result of the best of human beings, of a shop to a collective project to build a little more of our own individual existence.

Volunteer work as creator of concerts is the forge that keeps the chain of history, while quarry of yesterday goes and leaves the present and a coming future. The brush becomes sealed and enables our individuality to hoist horizontally through others. It’s the game where there the chain articulates the heart and brain, passion and reason, emotion and feeling. This is so because volunteering is the spark that remains on life not as an obligation but as an option, an option that is a desire that transcends our daily lives. It is a given factor of students into new dimensions of tomorrow.

Volunteer work not only contributes to an individual more plural existence, but it is the ultimate generator of more capital. The capital has to do with the association, with the degree of trust between the different actors of a community and society.

Robert Putnam tells us that Social Capital is made up of the degree of trust between social actors in a society, norms of civic behaviour practiced and the level of partnership that characterises it. It tells us that these are tangible items of wealth and strength of the internal social fabric of a society. Social Capital, August Gabriela tells us that it is related to the rules, institutions and organisations that promote trust, mutual support and cooperation. It is the step of the ladder that attracts most of the graduates into today’s working environment, where volunteering, becoming an apprentice or joining a company through an internship are now viable methods through which employment can be gained.

Volunteering is at the same time solidarity, reciprocity, cooperation, synergy, teamwork, empathy, trust, credibility, choice of life, social engagement, associativity, which always permeates beyond personal, private and corporate status. It is the most captivating turning point of human existence. Identification is a societal project (for democracy, for education, corruption, for more and better justice, for the rule of law, for better and wider social security) to address the needs of a particular group – Children without parents, children in the streets, the elderly, the illiterate , the young without horizons people with catastrophic illnesses, children with disabilities, the homeless. It is the touch that opens the heart to tell the so many graduates what they can do for others, for their country, beyond the family circle, beyond the job that lets you channel your material needs.

Volunteering is the bastion of reason, reasoned passion on instinct, on the edge of collective ceremonies of hearts drawn in order to manage and give more to others. It’s the way humans defeat the siege of individualism. Where there is only attempting to being somebody and no more importance to comply with the duty.
