How To Plan A Destination Wedding People Want To Go To!

Today many couples are choosing to have a destination wedding in lieu of a traditional affair at a church and reception hall.  Brides and grooms are planning destination weddings in a variety of places including abroad and in some non-traditional venues such as Disney World.  It’s pretty much a “if you can dream if, you can plan it” when it comes to weddings.  If you are getting married in the near future and you’ve decided to indulge in a destination wedding, here are some tips to consider before your big day arrives.

Plan Early

No matter what part of the world you decide to hold your wedding in, the best places book up early.  Make sure that you reserve your resort space early so that you have ample room for yourself, your bridal party and your guests.  Decide on a location and then check out the resorts that are available.  Look at the amenities of each including the view and the services that the resort provides.  Then make your reservations, block sufficient rooms and keep your confirmation number.  It’s also a good idea to call a few days later and just confirm that your reservation is exactly the way you planned.

After you’ve gotten the details locked down, send a “save the date” card out to your guests so they can make airline and room reservations.

Locations

When choosing a resort for your destination wedding, look at the services that are provided.  You may want to spend a spa day with your bridesmaids while the groomsmen and the groom enjoy a game of golf.  Find out in advance if the resort has a spa and make your reservations there.  Book a tee-time as well.  If the bride wants to have her hair done, find out if a salon is on site or if there is a good one nearby and make your appointments. Do the same for manicures or make-up applications.

After the Ceremony

The beauty of planning a destination wedding is that you can incorporate your wedding and honeymoon into one place.  Your guests are already paying to fly in to see you get married so allow them to spend time after the wedding enjoying the area.  Find out what entertainment options are available and provide that information to your guests.  Some guests may want to venture out on their own and others may want to do things as groups so provide them with necessary information. Consider having a brunch for your guests the day after the wedding as a way to say thank you for attending.

Vendors

When you are doing business with someone far away, it can be difficult. Make sure that you confirm everything from the flowers to limousine service well in advance.  Double check restaurant reservations for the rehearsal dinner and keep copies of emails and receipts.  Make sure you are using reputable vendors by checking them out with the Better Business Bureau or do an online search to see what former customers have had to say.
