How Do I Know What Kind Of Jewelry Is Right For Her?

If you want to get the special lady in your life a beautiful piece of jewelry for her birthday, a holiday, or as a surprise you may be concerned whether or not you will select something she will truly like. Below is a list of ideas you can use to determine what kind of jewelry is right for her.

What Kind of Jewelry does She Wear?

First begin by deciding what kind of jewelry you would like to surprise her with. You can help make this decision by paying attention to the types of jewelry she wears most often—necklaces, earrings, bracelets, watches, or rings. For example if it’s your anniversary you could consider an anniversary band. Also decide if you would like to buy her something she will wear every day or if you are looking for more of a statement piece. Once you have the answer to those questions you can focus on what style of jewelry she prefers.

Look and Listen For Clues

You don’t just want to buy her jewelry, but something memorable that she will enjoy for years to come. This means you have to understand her style. The answer to the below questions will help you to determine her preferred style of jewelry.

What does her current jewelry look like? Is it classic, modern, does she have a favorite stone or color she prefers to wear?  Does she wear jewelry every day or only for special occasions? Take a sneak peak in her jewelry box and pay attention to what jewelry she wears most often.

What is her current jewelry made of? Many women have a preference for either silver or gold, while some women wear both. Many women love diamonds, but maybe your loved one prefers another gemstone like her birthstone. Or maybe she prefers more natural or unique materials for her jewelry.

Has she told you what she likes? Pay attention to the next time she is watching a TV and comments on an actress’s jewelry or jewelry in a commercial. Also pay attention when she mentions jewelry she likes in a magazine she is reading. Think back to any times you were in jewelry store, boutique, or out shopping—was there a piece of jewelry she mentioned that she liked?

Is there a local jewelry store or jewelry designer she likes? If your loved one already has a favorite jewelry store, boutique, or has a local jewelry designer whose work she likes, use that to help you decide what to surprise her with. For example if there is a local boutique she has a few pieces from, take a picture of the current jewelry she has purchased from the boutique and ask a sales associate to help find something in a similar style.

Enlist Assistance

Don’t be afraid to ask for some assistance when selecting the jewelry for your girlfriend or wife. The trick is in picking the right person to assist who won’t ruin the surprise. This could be her mom, sister, best friend, or your children. You could even ask a friend or family member to go shopping with her and take her to a jewelry store to “look.” Then they can let you know some specific pieces she pointed out during their visit.

Make it Personal

Another route is to select something personal. This could be a jewelry item like a watch or bracelet with an inscription or if you are creative you could have a piece of jewelry custom designed for her.

Taking a little extra time to consider the answers to the questions above will help you in finding a piece that she will enjoy for many years. Once you have found the perfect piece for your special someone, find a way to give it to her that will create a lasting memory for you both.
