How Cars Stay Heated and Ventilated

Modern cars are purposefully designed to provide the best-ever comfort to the car occupants. And temperature control is one of the major ways to maintain the car cabin comfortable, depending upon the season it is. To stay fresh till you reach your destination, the car cabin needs to infiltrate fresh air at the same time, when the windows are rolled up to run the Climate Control feature. If we give it a thought, the process seems to be quite intriguing. To have a clear picture of how things work, and to share the knowledge with all our friends who have the same question in their mind, we asked an expert at the Riverside Hyundai dealership, and here is what we were explained.

The Aim

The aim of the latest car technologies is to keep a constant through-flow of fresh air into the cabin that will help in maintaining the atmosphere of the interior pleasant even when all the windows are shut. Simultaneously, when we are driving through extreme cold weather, we need the incoming air to be warm, the windows to be clear of mist and the car cabin to be at a comfortable temperature. Here’s how this is achieved through technology.

Constant Flow of Air

Air enters the car through a large duct placed at the front to ensure that when the car keeps moving the point of entry will have high-pressure to force the air suck in. From there the air travels to the heater, that warms it up if your car has the option. The other entry point of the air to the car is through the grilles placed at the top of the bonnet. The air then enters the car through the front foot-wells as well as through the vents made on the dashboard. We can adjust the vents can be to point the front-seat occupants either at their faces or at a lower point. Some cars also provide air ducts at the rear seat.

At the same time, the rear part of the cabin will have exit vents to let the air be thrown outside to keep the constant flow of air coming in and out of the car, without staling the atmosphere.

Methods of Heat Control

The Riverside Hyundai dealership experts demonstrated how the air in a car gets warmed up by a heater that is based on a water valve and a matrix. The matrix temperature can be controlled by a regulator that checks the amount of hot water to be passed through it. Within the air-blending heater, the matrix stays at a consistent temperature by mixing up the warm air with cool air with the help of the temperature-controlled flaps that keep opening and closing down alternatively. The level of temperature till which the air has to be warmed gets controlled through either the water valve or the air-blending system. On the other side, the climate control vents placed on the dashboard works at a tap of your finger on its switches allowing either hot water pass through the matrix either in more quantity or less, as per your choice. The temperature control blends the heated air with the cold air from coming from outside with the opening and closing of the flaps.
