A Family Museum Trip’s Lessons

Yesterday a girl stood in a classroom a gave a description of the things she did the previous holiday weekend.  Her fellow students in the class described going to church, visiting theme parks with their families, being at a party or just playing at home.  So it was a change to hear this child talk about going on a trip to a museum with her parents.  She spoke in a hushed tone and the rest of the class listened to her description of the different items she had seen.  And they gazed at the photos of exhibits that she showed them on her smart phone.

Museum trips were nothing new to her school class members.  After all, most of them had been on school trips to some of the city’s major museum attractions.  What made this child’s story interesting to the class was the fact that their classmate had suggested, planned and convinced her parents to make the museum visit a family outing.  She had read about the museum in a travel flyer that she found in her father’s car when he was cleaning out extra papers.  She was intrigued by the flyer’s description of a coming exhibit.  When she showed it to her dad, he responded by saying that if she wanted to see the exhibit they could go as a family and use the Groupon coupon special promo for Orbitz to assure admission to the museum on an traditionally busy day.  The family uses Groupon to save lots of money on everyday items and special trips and treats.  She was thrilled to find a Groupon for discounts on Orbitz.

So in class yesterday she described the exhibit and the history tour to the class.  They were enthralled, even those who had visited the museum on school trips.  Many were even more interested in her description of the family trip.  And about how her dad and mom took her to see different sights and described what they’d seen when they were her age.  Her classmates instinctively sensed that her holiday museum trip had been more than just a family excursion.  It was a valuable bonding experience that she had initiated through her curious examination of a travel flyer found in her dad’s car.
