7 Things Not To Do in BITSAT Exam 2018

More than 2 lacs students appear for BITSAT exam, the entrance exam to get admission into the most prestigious private engineering institute in India – BITS, Pilani.

BITS has 3 campuses in India, namely BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa, and Hyderabad, which enjoy world class infrastructure and an incredibly competent club of faculties. Providing 2500 seats across various disciplines of engineering, BITSAT is the most competitive engineering entrance exam in India after IIT-JEE.

If you’re one of the BITSAT aspirants for 2018, here’s a list of things you must avoid in your upcoming BITSAT exam:

  1. 1. Ignoring English and Logical Reasoning Preparation

This section comprises of 75/450 marks, which is 1/6th of the total score. The questions asked here are very basic. Giving an hour of your time to its preparation will help you bag those 75 marks without a lot brainstorming in the BITSAT exam.

  1. Not Giving NCERT its Due Importance

BITSAT paper is all about speed and accuracy. You have 72 seconds per question. So, unlike JEE, you are not expected to delve too deep into concepts. These questions can be easily solved if your fundamentals are clear. This can be achieved by studying NCERT thoroughly, for all the 3 subjects. NCERT will not only benefit you in BITSAT, but also help you score well in 12th boards.

  1. Underestimating the Power of Solving Mock Papers

BITSAT exam is a computer based test (CBT). Since students do not have enough practice in online testing in schools, it is very important to have a feel of the online mode before the actual exam. Besides, mock papers give you a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses. It is advisable to solve at least 3 mock papers a week which can go up to 6 per week during the last few weeks before the BITSAT exam.

  1. Giving 3 Minutes to that One Adamant Question

At any point during your BITSAT exam, remember this one thing: you have 180 minutes to solve 150 questions, which is 72 seconds/question. If you think any question is taking more than 2 minutes and you’re still struggling with its solution, don’t take it on your ego to crack it. Simply leave it and move on. There are other questions which are probably easier and will fetch you the same amount of marks. You may mark this question for review and come back later.

  1. Guessing Answers in the BITSAT Exam

A lot of students tend to guess answers in BITSAT. One wrong answer can cost you 1 mark. We would strictly suggest you abstain from guess work. 4-5 calculated guesses are acceptable. However, if you do more that than, it may cost you your dream of studying in BITS.

  1. Chasing the Extra Questions

There’s a mystery surrounding the extra questions in BITSAT. Students are often so bent towards attempting them that they rush through the main section. This is a strict no. Complete your main paper calmly without any hurry. Go to the extra questions’ section only once you’re confident about the main section and have at least 20 minutes remaining.

  1. Thinking that JEE and BITSAT Preparation is the Same

Unlike JEE, there are no coaching centers which are dedicated to preparing students for BITSAT. So, most students think that their preparation is one and the same. While it’s true that syllabus for the two exams are alike, you cannot prepare for them in the same manner. While JEE is more about having an in-depth analysis of your concepts, BITSAT is more about speed. When you have to solve more questions in less time, it is only natural that the questions will be simpler. So, the questions in BITSAT are short but tricky.

As a result, you need customised study materials and a study plan for BITSAT. There are a number of emerging ed-tech companies which give you exam-specific preparation.
