Travelling or going on holiday always present us with good opportunities to capture long lasting memories via photography. Preparing for holiday as well as bringing back everything you took with you can sometimes be challenging. Below are four travel safety tips that will come handy when taking pictures that are likely to provide you with long lasting memories.
1. Keep your Eyes on Pricey Gadgets:
Some might argue that it is a lot better to keep our costly gadgets like DSLR cameras, lens, notebooks etc in our main luggage rather than in the hand luggage. We are all aware of some of the problems that plague most airlines when it comes to handling our luggage. Checked in bags at the airport can appear to have gone in to the luggage handlers. You trust them to handle your bags with care especially when you have your pricey gadgets inside. Sometimes luggage gets randomly searched without prior notification leaving room for theft. In some cases, your prices items might get damaged with bags being slammed on the floor due to luggage handlers not taking adequate care.
In the interest of safety and prevention of theft, it is best to keep expensive gadgets in your handbag. What tends to happen when going through security check is officers may take a bit more time to inspect your gadgets especially if you have a DSRL camera or laptop. Just be patient, it is in the interest of everyone’s safety.
2. Keep Memory Cards Safely:
Make sure you take extra memory cards with you in order to have enough room to save pictures and videos. It also means you will not have to worry about deleting interesting pictures in order to make space for more. Once a memory card is exhausted, keep it safely in your hand luggage or camera bag if you have one as this will prevent any possible loss of the card and pictures stored in it. Refrain from keeping memory cards in your wallets or loosely in your pockets as it might go missing without a trace.
3. Purchase the Right Travel Insurance:
When purchasing travel insurance for your journey, make sure you select a travel insurance package that will provide adequate cover for your camera, accessories and other necessary equipments that will be travelling with you. This type of travel insurance should cover you for full replacement costs in the event of damage, loss or theft. Make sure you read the details properly before buying so you are really sure that the insurance package will cater for the true cost of your items.
4. Keep your Gadgets Out of Site:
Make sure you purchase a suitable bag to store your camera and other equipments safely. Having said that, do not pick a bag that has everything saying it is a camera bag as this can draw the attention of potential thieves. When travelling except if you are professional photographer, try as much as possible not to go to heavy on the amount of equipments you carry. Only carry the equipments you will require to capture amazing photographs. The same goes for the number of accessories you are carrying with you. You don’t want to have any regrets like “Oh dear! That picture would have been a lot better if I had carried my tripod”.
Upon arrival back home, you can then sit down to look through your pictures to decide which one will be archived for long lasting memories and which ones need to be deleted.
